Programme Note

Micromégas is a movement from a cycle of a cappella choral pieces (Science Fictions) based on early science fiction texts. This movement sets a fragment of Voltaire’s early science fiction novel of the same name. The text depicts a planet collectively coming to terms with their own existence whilst comparing themselves to a giant alien traveller who has visited them. The almost liturgical setting of the text adds another layer of emotion to the text, and also provides a reference point into our own lives.

Micromégas was premiered by the Blossom Street Singers on 7/2/14 at Regent’s Hall, London, with a repeat performance as part of the Voices of London Festival 2014.
