Programme Note
A Lullaby for Anya is written as a present for Tony Followell and his family on their first Christmas together. The piece gently rocks in the right hand whilst the left plays two twelve tone rows, in bell like patterns. It ebbs and flows, fades in and out, the lines and hands are independent yet intertwine and notes ring from keyboard into the still air. – the piece is both in reality and in a dream.
As the piece subtly lulls to a close, the full range of the piano has been explored without being too brash or obtrusive, and an open-ended calm is created by the time the piece has finished.
